For the Love of Colorguard is a service organization currently at James Madison University. FLOC was recognized as an official organization in 2006 and since then we have been dedicated towards helping both JMU and local colorguard communities through service and fundraising.

What does FLOC do at JMU?

Specifically at JMU, FLOC helps both the MRD colorguard and Nuance Winterguards, as well as provides support for color guards in the surrounding areas. We do this through service through interaction, our motto, by keeping ourselves involved with all of these communities.

What is FLOC's policy regard hazing, alcohol, substance use, and discrimination?

Accepted Answer

FLOC is a dry organization at JMU. This means we do not tolerate the use of alcohol, substance use, or hazing within our organization or related to our organization. FLOC is inclusive to everyone, therefore we also do not tolerate discrimination of any kind against anyone in our organization.

Who is eligible to join?

Membership in this organization is open to all college students in the surrounding area and will not be restricted on the basis of age, disability, ethnicity, gender, national origin, race, religion, sexual orientation, or political affiliation. Anyone is allowed to become a member of this organization so long as they:
- share the common interest to help improve colorguard
- share the common interest to serve the local community
- show support to those within the colorguard community seeking guidance
- respect all colorguard programs within JMU and the community

Follow our Facebook and instagram for more information on interest meetings. Interested members should attend the interest meeting to learn more about recruitment week requirements and interviews, as those are the first steps in becoming a sister of FLOC. Those who are interested but cannot attend should reach out to Addie Belongia, our Vice President of Membership at belongao@dukes.jmu.edu

When does the process start to become a member?

The Fall 2025 Recruitment process will begin on August 31st with our interest meeting, with recruitment events throughout the week ending with interviews on September 7th. Once interviews are completed, prospective members will be notified if they will move forward and become Membership Hopefuls. Expectations of Prospective Members

Prospective Members (or Potential membership hopefuls) are expected to uphold the objectives of FLOC during their process and treat everyone with the upmost respect. To be considered for a bid, a Prospective member hopeful (PMH) must attend the required amount of events during recruitment week. If a PMH is extended a bid, they will then become an Membership hopeful (MH) and be expected to fulfill their process requirements as determined by the Vice President of Membership.

Sisters are expected to: 
- Meet all service and social point requirements 
- Pay semester dues 
- Respect other sisters
- Represent FLOC and JMU as a university 
- Uphold FLOC's policies and objectives
