Service
FLOC began as a service organization, and we act by our motto, "Service Through Interaction". We not only serve the JMU Colorguard communities, but also surrounding colorguard communities.
Check out some highlights below!
Clothing Swaps
Sisters bring in clothes they no longer use to clothing swap events, where attendees can take the clothes, and any items that are remaining at the end of the event are donated to Plato's Closet, with the profits then being donated to Hope Distributed.
Young Children's Program
In the Fall of 2023, sisters taught dance classes at the local Young Children's program every week. Students were taught new kinds of movement connected to vocabulary they were being taught in their classes.
AIA Floor Help and Local Spin Clinics
During the winterguard season, FLOC sisters will attend AIA competitions to help high school teams pull their floors. When sisters go home for winter break, they additionally hold small spin clinics in their home town, continuing to improve colorguard in communities outside of JMU.
Dog Toy Making
Sisters bring in old t-shirts or blankets and use them to create dog toys which are donated to a local pet shelter.
Free Little Library
During the 2023-2024 academic year, FLOC took donations to create a free little library providing books for citizens of Harrisonburg. The library is installed in the Agora Downtown market, all books are free to be borrowed and any book can be donated!
Can Tabs
FLOC sisters will gather their canned tabs during the year and one of our sisters takes them so that they can be donated to the Ronald McDonald House.
